Karl Sullivan is a legal practitioner, adjudicator, arbitrator and advocate whose work has centred on resolving disputes in employment, construction, commercial, contract, and insurance matters with as little disruption as possible to those involved. His career spans operational service in the Royal Australian Air Force, senior roles in risk and catastrophe management, and industry positions in which he has advised, negotiated and lobbied governments on disaster management riskpolicy settings affecting the community.

Karl holds a Bachelor of Science from the Australian Defence Force Academy, as well as a post-graduate Juris Doctor. He is admitted to the Supreme Court of the Australian Capital Territory, appearing in that jurisdiction as well as in the courts of New South Wales, Victoria and the Commonwealth.

Karl has additional qualifications and experience as an arbitrator, adjudicator, mediator and also practices expert determination, chiefly in commercial, contractual and construction disputes. Karl focuses on achieving settlement at the lowest practical level of impact—whether through direct negotiation, or structured alternative dispute resolution. His work is directed to clarifying issues early, narrowing the real issues in dispute, and where possible assisting parties to reach durable, efficient outcomes without unnecessary escalation.

Where litigation cannot be avoided, Karl is experienced in efficiently advancing and resolving proceedings, accustomed to working within the disciplines of courts and tribunals, with close attention paid to proportionate use of resources, timely resolution and minimising costs.
